Promoting new local creative forces – YDC finale event takes place on 7 September
This year’s CENTRESTAGE finale event, the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest (YDC) 2024 Grand Final takes place on 7 September. Themed “To Be Seen”, it aims to highlight the outstanding creations of upcoming local designers, showcasing their creativity and drawing more attention to their talent. The YDC team recruited students from local fashion institutes earlier this year and promoted the event in New York, London and Paris, successfully attracting more than 100 Hong Kong designers to participate. The top 10 finalists selected by the judging panel will showcase four of their designs at the Grand Final, competing for four major awards: Champion, the Excellence Award, Best Art Direction, and the “My Favourite Collection” award chosen by public voting.
The event has invited Masayuki Ino, founder and designer of the Japanese fashion brand doublet, to serve as the VIP judge. Ino founded the brand in 2012 and his humorous and playful fashion style has won wide acclaim in the industry. In 2018, he won the LVMH Prize, becoming the first Asian designer to receive this prestigious award. The other judges include Katherine Fang, Chairlady of the HKTDC Garment Advisory Committee; Bohan Qiu, Founder and Director of fashion PR consulting firm BOH
Project; Jonathan Lee, APAC Wholesale Director of Ryodan Showroom; Iemi Chu, Associate Publisher of Vogue Hong Kong; Tracey Cheng, Vice President of Women’s Merchandising at I.T; and Victoria Tang-Owen, Director of Arts of Culture & Heritage for Shanghai Tang.
MINI Hong Kong has been the lead sponsor of the YDC for eight consecutive years. YDC Alumni designers Johnson Chong (YAMA GUEST) and Kinyan Lam (Kinyan Lam) have collaborated with MINI to integrate the spirit of urban outdoor travellers and adventurers into fashion design, creating a collection that is both simple and functional and that reflects MINI’s new-generation design aesthetics and sustainability concepts. Singer Panther Chan will perform at the event which will also be attended by artistes Kaho Hung, Zelos Wong, Madboii, Ah Gi and Dixon Wong to show their support.

About YDC
The YDC aims to promote a new generation of local design talent, while creating opportunities to showcase their collections in front of global and local industry professionals at CENTRESTAGE. Organised by the HKTDC, the contest is considered one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the region, with a successful track record of past contestants becoming leading designers for fashion enterprises or establishing their own labels. It is the starting point for many designers to develop their brand. To further promote the international visibility of local Hong Kong designers, in 2012, the HKTDC launched FASHIONALLY.com, an online platform that aims to promote local fashion brands and help local designers connect with global industry players and opportunities.
