DUBAI, 29 January 2022 – It is celebrated by a billion people around the world and on 31 January and 1 February, the China Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will ring in Chinese New Year with a series of festivities.
Also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, the celebrations bid the old year farewell and welcome in the next 12 months, wishing for good luck and prosperity. Each year is assigned one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. 2022 is the Year of the Tiger and children born between now and next January are expected to be brave, competitive and strong.
On 31 January – Chinese New Year’s Eve – there will be Han Chinese costume shows, featuring stunning traditional silks complete with traditional red and gold embroidery as well as gorgeous fans. Visitors can attend the shows at the China Pavilion at 1430-1500 GST, 1530-1600 GST and 1630-1700 GST.
Later, the pavilion will host a flash music show, with an orchestra performing classic Chinese songs like “Jasmine Flower” and “My People, My Country”. The show will be performed at 1600-1615 GST and 1700-1715 GST.
On the morning of 1 February, the city of Shenzhen will present a fashion show in the China Pavilion’s event hall, featuring top designers and experts to introduce visitors to the modern Qipao dress style, highlighting modern Chinese elegance.
There will also be a series of events and exhibitions running from 31 January until the end of Expo 2020 Dubai on 31 March to bring the atmosphere of Chinese New Year to visitors, including the “Tour of Elephants” and “Tree of Chinese Characters”.
The China Pavilion square will host a variety of activities such as the dragon and lion dance, calligraphy, paper cutting, and music shows, while special gifts will be presented to visitors. During this time, a number of videos about the country’s natural landscape, culture and development, as well as the spectacular televised Spring Festival Gala will be broadcast on large screens.
