DUBAI, 23 January 2022 – Choreographer to the stars, Parris Goebel showed why she handpicked 30 young talents from her home country, New Zealand, to star in a three-day song and dance extravaganza at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Millennium Amphitheatre, called ‘Voice of Youth – Wonderland’, on Sunday.
From the energetic opening act – a cover of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams” – to Earth, Wind and Fire’s 1979 disco hit, “Boogie Wonderland”, Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”, Keala Settle’s “This is Me” from the film, “The World’s Greatest Showman”, and culminating in the late Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, the audience members had their feet tapping and dancing.
The teenage performers, all of whom are between the ages of 16 and 18, amazed visitors with their fast footwork, never missing a step, or a harmony with their acapella singing.
For their curtain call, the performers sang a Māori song and did the Haka ceremonial dance which gained them a standing ovation.
Goebel has worked with the likes of Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, Janet Jackson and Nicki Minaj.
Voice of Youth – Wonderland takes place at Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre from 23-25 January and Jubilee Park on 27 January at 1800 GST. Entry is free for all Expo 2020 ticket holders, but concert-goers are advised to arrive early.
