How did the idea of opening the first Japanese restaurant in Dubai arise? And what is the vision and mission that the restaurant seeks to achieve?
The tale of Miyako traces its origins to October 23, 1987, when it emerged as the first Japanese restaurant. Our core mission then, as it is today, remains unwavering: to craft an authentic Japanese dining experience beyond the borders of Japan. It was the heartfelt inspiration of our guests that spurred us into action. Over the years, countless Japanese visitors residing in the Galleria Residence found solace within our walls, occasionally yearning for the familiar comforts of home. In response, we endeavored to recreate a slice of Japan right here in Dubai, a sanctuary for those seeking a taste of familiarity amidst the bustling cityscape.
2. How were the location and interior design of the restaurant chosen? And how important is it to provide an authentic Japanese ambiance for customers?
Our goal is to encapsulate the essence of Japanese culture. Hence, you’ll find an abundance of traditional elements meticulously woven into our design. From the delicate allure of paper parasols to the rustic charm of cobblestone streets, and the timeless elegance of tatami weaves, each detail resonates with the spirit of Japan. Our design draws inspiration from the ancient Japanese technique of timber preservation known as Shou Sugi Ban. Light-toned timber ceilings and screens harmonize with dark stained timber accents, resulting in a contemporary yet evocative ambiance. The fusion of modernity and tradition offers a distinct, authentic taste of Japan, inviting guests to embark on a journey through both the past and present.
3. What ingredients and raw materials does the Miyako use in preparing its dishes? Are they imported from Japan?
We use a variety of sushi-grade fish, including yellowtail, tuna, and sea bream. Additionally, we offer seasonal fish and vegetables to provide our guests with an authentic taste of what’s available in Japan.
Our primary ingredients rice, soy sauce, miso, seaweed, vinegar, and pickles are exclusively sourced from Japan.
4. Do you offer any special or unique Japanese dishes or foods that are impossible to find at other Japanese restaurants in Dubai?
We offer seasonal specialties rarely found in other restaurants, such as Hokkaido uni (sea urchin), Kobe beef, Japanese wagyu, and Ayu (sweet fish). Our menu includes specialty sushi and sashimi, as well as authentic kaiseki (multi-course Japanese set menus). Beyond our diverse food offerings, we are renowned for both traditional and modern cooking methods, including robata grilling and teppanyaki.
5. Do you provide special options for children or people with special dietary needs?
Among our regular guests are not only adults but also young fans of Japanese food. For them, we have a special kids’ menu featuring kid-friendly items like teriyaki, tempura, and udon noodles. We also cater to special dietary needs with gluten-free options and a vegetarian bento box.
6. What kind of menu does Miyako offer?
We offer diverse and authentic Japanese cuisine, including both traditional and contemporary dishes with approximately 285 items. Our menu includes classic favorites like sushi, sashimi, and tempura, as well as modern creations that showcase the innovative side of Japanese cooking. Whether you are in the mood for a multi-course kaiseki meal or a unique fusion dish like uni pasta, we strive to provide a culinary experience that highlights the rich flavors and techniques of Japan. In addition to our regular menu, we also offer a Chef’s Special menu featuring contemporary Japanese cuisine. This exclusive selection includes dishes like mushroom rice, Yellowtail carpaccio, lobster carpaccio, and crab cake with mango salsa. Furthermore, we offer a special kids’ menu.

7. How about some summer season recommendations for flavors to try?
During the hot summer season in Dubai, we are excited to offer a brand-new Summer promotion. It features light appetizers to suit various tastes, paired with carafe sake. This combination delivers the perfect quick refreshment after a long, sunny day.
8. How do you ensure maintaining the quality of fresh ingredients and authentic flavors in your dishes?
To ensure that we consistently exceed the highest expectations of our guests, we prioritize several key factors in our culinary approach. Firstly, we meticulously source high-quality ingredients, selecting only the finest produce, meats, and seafood available. Secondly, we adhere to strict standards of proper storage and handling procedures to maintain the freshness and integrity of our ingredients from delivery to plate. Additionally, we embrace the use of seasonal ingredients, allowing us to showcase vibrant flavors and textures.
Moreover, our commitment to minimal processing ensures that the natural essence and nutritional value of our ingredients remain intact, allowing their inherent qualities to shine through in every dish.
