His Excellency Kęstutis Navickas, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania, had a tour of the high-tech hydroponic Bustanica farm in Dubai South.
During the tour, he was accompanied by Dr. Antanas Venckus, Head of International Affairs and Export Promotion Unit, Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania ; His Excellency Ramūnas Davidonis, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Arab Emirates; and Ms. Šarūnė Šablevičienė, Agricultural and Commercial Attaché of the Republic of Lithuania.
The Lithuanian minister was briefed regarding the technological systems used in the vertical farm, such as LED lights in the grow room and germination room, growth fans, control room, storage areas for gulf equipment, growing equipment, shelves, nutrient dosing systems, other germination room equipment, and a lot more.
He described the farm as a significant achievement and technical development with unique advantages in the United Arab Emirates to enhance food security for long-term periods.
He praised the efforts of the government of the United Arab Emirates to employ investments in promoting food security projects following the highest international standards in terms of sustainability and safety, highlighting his country’s eagerness to cooperate with the UAE in this field moving forward.
Spreading over 330,000 ft2, the Bustanica farm, located in Dubai World Central, is the world’s largest vertical hydroponic farm producing more than 1 million kilograms of high-quality leafy vegetables using 95% less water than conventional farming.
