First of its kind for training children with learning difficulties
- The center has diagnosed more than 7,500 cases from the UAE and the region
- A scientific methodology is adopted to diagnose the symptoms and develop an ideal individual academic behavioral one-on-one intervention program for each case
[Abu Dhabi – United Arab Emirates, 17 February 2023] – Taleem Training Skills and Development Centre, which meets the needs of students with learning challenges in Abu Dhabi, celebrated nine years of success as the first of its kind. During the journey, it was able to provide vital services to an important category of children who face challenges that might represent a real obstacle to their academic achievement, especially if the condition is not well-diagnosed in a timely manner, and without providing optimal interventions.
With it’s a very warm, welcome and family oriented environment, the Center applies a scientific methodology to deal with children who face learning difficulties, and succeeded in establishing a prominent local and regional position in the UAE in particular and the GCC countries in general. It further relies on very advanced diagnosis techniques, and latest specialized tests performed by qualified specialists in Arabic, English, French and mathematics in the academic, behavioral and educational individual one-on-one intervention programs.
The center specifically aims to provide solutions for those who suffer from hidden academic problems represented in learning challenges, mainly in reading, writing and arithmetic or “dyslexia”. Those children exhibit poor concentration, distraction and excessive movement. Furthermore, it also offers its services to children who do not receive sufficient attention from their families, due to the lack of specialized entities that can provide appropriate interventions. When a parent arrives at the center, they will be booked in to sit with a trained member of staff who can ensure they get the exact help they need.
The Centre was launched in Abu Dhabi in 2014 as the first of its kind equipped to deal with these learning disabilities and related conditions in the UAE. The center’s major goal is to help children with such challenges overcome their difficulties, integrate them into the educational and work ecosystems, and spread awareness among the society to shed light on these disorders.
The center was established by Shereen Al-Nowais, who is considered one of the most prominent female figure in the country, well-known for her role in social responsibility at the individual and corporate levels. In recognition of her sincere efforts in the humanitarian and social services front in the Arab world and the United Nations, she was recently awarded the Arab Female Knight Award.
Describing her journey with the center, Al Nowais says: “I faced the same problem with my son, but I accepted the challenge and armed myself with a strong will to support him. I have established the center to train and develop the skills of those children who suffer from such challenges, mainly Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), minor Autism, and Down syndrome, by providing the necessary learning and training solutions. This may be intervention regarding a certain weakness the parent may already be aware of or they may be booked in to have their child assessed by one of Taleem’s many fully qualified and experienced Educational Psychologists”.
When asked about the nature of Dyslexia, Al-Nowais confirmed that it is associated with many processes and skills. “Children who suffer from psychological, physical, mental or emotional problems, or even have hearing and vision problems, may be affected. Nevertheless, it is not necessarily to be the cause for learning difficulties, because they can be diagnosed among children who have average or above average intelligence abilities”, she said.
Regarding the symptoms and signs that appear on children who suffer from learning challenges, Al Nowais indicated that they usually find it difficult to pronounce common simple words, learn letters, numbers, days of the week, colors and shapes, understand and follow directions, and have difficulty following orders.
“The child may suffer from a weakness in fine motor skills represented in holding a pen or scissors, and many other signs that the specialist can discover and analyze before registering the child in a comprehensive intervention program that can be implemented in cooperation with the family and the school”, she concluded.
Al-Nowais attributes her success to the support she receives from the wise leadership of the UAE, and the direct encouragement of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Nation”, the first supporter of childhood, when she met in 2016 and supported her case from the beginning, this motivated her to establish the second branch in Dubai in 2018, to bridge the huge gap in training and learning these children besides raising awareness about their plight in the society
