Hungary celebrated its National Day at Expo 2020 on Friday (18 March) with lively performances held throughout the day that showcased the country’s unique culture and traditions.
His Excellency Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, Executive Director of the Office of the Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai welcomed His Excellency Osama Naffa, Ambassador of Hungary in the UAE.
HE Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali said: “Hungary’s strong participation is reflected in the remarkable beauty and content of its pavilion, which presents the country’s rich water treasures, and highlights their historic, medicinal, and touristic significance through interactive experiences that engage visitors without the use of water.
“We are proud of the thriving relations that we share with Hungary, and look forward to further strengthening our ties as we explore new opportunities for collaboration in fields of mutual priority, such as science, technology, and innovation, for the benefit and well-being of our countries and people.”
HE Osama Naffa said: “We are proud that the Hungarian pavilion has already been visited by 900,000 people and we are proud that Hungary and its national treasures are so much in the spotlight. The Hungarian Pavilion focuses on the unique water sources and medicinal waters of our country, presenting our country as an attractive destination to the interested public.
“The past 170 days have also played a major role in developing business relations between Hungary and the UAE. During the thematic weeks of Expo 2020 Dubai, hundreds of Hungarian companies have introduced themselves and established connections with a number of business partners from Dubai, elsewhere in the Emirates, and the Gulf region with whom both sides are expected to develop fruitful long-term partnerships.”
The speeches were followed by a cultural performance of Hungarian folk dance and contemporary ballet that represented an integral part of Hungary’s heritage by the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and the Ballet Company of Győr.
As part of Hungary’s National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai, the Hungarian State Folk Orchestra presented folk music with centuries-old roots in Al Wasl Gardens earlier today. The celebrations were due to continue into the evening at the Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre with performances from world-famous Hungarian artists.
The Hungary Pavilion’s striking double-shelled timbre structure can be found in Jubilee. Built using dry technology – meaning the need for water was significantly reduced – much of the experience inside focuses around water, such as information on Hungary’s 1,300 thermal springs, an immersive water experience without water, and a tasting of different mineral waters.
National and Honour Days at Expo 2020 Dubai are moments to celebrate each of Expo 2020 Dubai’s 200-plus International Participants, shining a light on their culture and achievements and showcasing their pavilions and programming.
Running until 31 March 2022, Expo 2020 has invited visitors from across the planet to join the making of a new world in a six-month celebration of human creativity, innovation, progress and culture.
