Arab singing sensation Balqees hit all the right notes this evening (28 January) at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Jubilee Park, with a fresh new set that looked to the future.
Radiant in a sky-blue cape dress, she performed with a large orchestra led by maestro Michel Fadel, with traditional percussion and string instruments meeting urban pop and classic operatic vocals.
Balqees said: “I thank Expo 2020 for inviting me to sing again on the world stage. I will present music that is different to the music I’ve previously performed on stage; music that is in line with the Expo experience, which links authenticity with modernity and the future.”
Balqees continues to establish herself on the global music stage, as the first Arab artist to perform with the legendary Andrea Bocelli, the first Arab celebrity to unveil her wax figure at Dubai’s Madame Tussauds and the singer selected to join Alicia Keys on stage for her Infinite Nights performance at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Al Wasl Plaza last month.
A member of the UAE NSO Symphony Orchestra since 2013, Balqees possesses a gifted range, mastering opera in four languages – Arabic, English, French and Italian – and has performed for prestigious audiences worldwide.
The artist said her inspiration comes from “life, the society in which we live, and the people we see and interact with constantly. These people are my sources of inspiration, telling the stories I hear every day”.
