Morocco’s iconic singer-songwriter Oum and celebrated music group Mnat Aïchata delivered hypnotic tunes that brilliantly blended traditional Western Sahara sounds with soul, jazz and electronic music at their ‘Desert Blues’ concert, held at Expo 2020’s Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre on Friday (21 January).
Oum, hailed as an ambassador of Moroccan culture, charmed the audience with her seductive voice, giving the audience a taste of the traditional music of her country and the rhythms of Gnawa and Hassani, ably supported by the trio from Mnat Aïchata on trumpet, saxophone and bass guitar.
Mnat Aïchata, formed in 2000, have performed at many cultural events and festivals in Morocco, as well as in Europe, South Korea, the United States, Qatar and Bahrain.
