DUBAI, 22 January 2022 – The HIT Music Festival, a marathon seven-hour extravaganza, treated audiences to a feast of rich South Indian music at Expo’s Jubilee Stage on Saturday (22 January).
The non-stop show unleashed 15 artists, performing in several genres and languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, from the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
The South Indian music boom is fuelled by the region’s vibrant movie scene, which accounts for more than 50 per cent of the Indian movie industry’s total revenue.
Artists performing at the event included young Keralite singing sensation Suchetha Satish, who presented a five-minute multilingual set; singer and actress Remya Nambeesan; and Sachin Warrier, known for his song ‘Muthuchippi Poloru’.
Two Bangalore-based groups gave Carnatic (classical) music a new twist. Harish Sivaramakrishnan, the lead vocalist of rock band Agam, rendered classical songs with a rock punch, while Trilok, a contemporary Carnatic rock band, impressed with its improvisations and creativity.
Singer and actor Siddharth Menon, from Kerala, co-founder of acclaimed band Thaikkudam Bridge, gave a star performance, along with singer Jyotsna Radhakrishnan, who sings in 12 languages.
Other outstanding performers included KS Harisankar, a singer and music producer; rock/blues trio Rock Paper Scissors; JAM 202; and singer, poet and social media sensation Arya Dhayal.
DJ Savio, a top Kerala DJ, kept the audience on its feet through remixes of some of the biggest hits from South Indian movies and the wider Indian music scene.
