PhDUBAI, 14 January 2022 – International music producer Satori rocked Expo 2020 Dubai’s Jubilee Stage in an energetic show Friday with a global set that featured powerful vocals from Serbian singer Milica Majstorović, who joined him on stage.
The collaboration brought together some of the most prominent musicians in the field of traditional music from Serbia and the Balkans, showcasing the story of the fascinating heritage of the Neolithic Vinča culture through modern electronic interpretations. Satori’s set also combined vocal samples from Bosnian signer Amira Medunjanin and Macedonian Romani vocalist Esma Redžepova.
Ahead of his performance, Satori said: “I see my sound as a journey around the world. I’m collecting all these souvenirs and being inspired by everything I hear. I’m not inspired by one genre specifically but by travelling and getting to know different sounds and cultures – and then to find a marriage between all these things that I’ve found. My worldly sound combines all these things to create one harmonic piece.”
Hailing from the Netherlands with Serbian roots, Satori’s sets are known for covering everything from deep house to downtempo folktronica, and using ethnic vocal samples and native instruments. Satori (whose real name is Djordje Petrovic; his stage name is a Japanese word for “Spontaneous Enlightenment”) is also a singer and keyboardist in a group called The Band From Space.
