DUBAI, 9 January 2022 – Kyrgyzstan has signed bilateral trade agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) worth USD 3.2 million (AED 11.7 million), as a result of the Kyrgyzstan-UAE business forum, which was held on 14 December as part of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Expo 2020 Dubai National Day.
The event, organised by the Kyrgyzstan Pavilion and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, successfully promoted domestic products in the Arab market and accelerated trade, economic and investment cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the UAE. It resulted in a number of foreign trade contracts for the supply of meat, honey, and dried fruits.
An important platform for examining existing business synergies and boosting Dubai’s non-oil trade with Kyrgyzstan beyond the USD 817 million (AED 3 billion) in 2020, the business forum was attended by more than 100 participants working in various economic sectors, including IT, energy, construction and pharmaceuticals, as well as food.
Speaking during the Kyrgyz Republic’s Expo 2020 Dubai National Day last month, His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “Under the theme, ‘So Much to Discover’, Kyrgyzstan’s pavilion promotes the country as a place of rich historical and cultural diversity, as well natural beauty, through symbolic content, such as the Yurt, which is a traditional tent that has been part of Kyrgyzstan’s identity and nomadic way of life for centuries.
“At the pavilion, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in Kyrgyzstan’s rich nomadic traditions and customs, which are based long-cherished values of pride, benevolence, and community. The pavilion also sheds light on a forward-looking Kyrgyzstan, one that has achieved a lot in relation to innovation, knowledge, and socio-economic development, which it is sharing with the world through the Expo 2020 platform.”
Located in the Opportunity District, the Kyrgyzstan Pavilion illustrates the natural beauty of the country, and its motivated, educated population. It reveals the economic and tourism potential, and how Kyrgyzstan is leveraging the development of innovations, knowledge and the widespread use of information technologies. The history, traditions and cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people are on display, and there is the chance to purchase unique souvenirs made from various environmentally-friendly, natural materials.
