DUBAI, 8 January 2022 – The Michigan State Mobility and Innovation Trade delegation has arrived at Expo 2020 Dubai, hoping to boost the US state’s already-significant trade ties with the United Arab Emirates, through talks at the USA Pavilion from 8-14 January.
As the USA’s tenth-largest exporter of goods to the UAE, Michigan aims to build on the USD two billion worth of goods exported to the UAE from 2017-2020.
The delegation is being led by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), alongside its Arab Gulf trade office, Channels MEA.
International Trade Development Manager, MEDC and delegation lead, David Newhouse said: “The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the economic development arm for our state, has brought a delegation of nine companies on a Mobility and Innovation trade mission to the UAE, timed to coincide with Expo 2020, whose themes fit perfectly with the products and services offered by these companies. Each company has a schedule of individual meetings with potential partners in Dubai and Abu Dhabi – companies involved with artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, electric commercial vehicles, aerospace, defence and healthcare.”
Newhouse welcomed the opportunity, adding: “Michigan companies have enjoyed past fruitful relationships with UAE companies. This trade delegation hopes to continue that trend and develop new partnerships.”
The Michigan delegation will include companies involved in creating mobility solutions, such as Bollinger Motors (consumer and commercial electric trucks), and OASIS Advanced Engineering (land combat vehicle training devices). Other members of the delegation will include United Precision Products (CNC aerospace engine fasteners and hardware), Life Rx (pharmaceutical supply chain advocate) and Soothsayer Analytics (data science and artificial intelligence consulting).
Michigan is one of seven states currently working with the US Foreign Agricultural Service and US Foreign Commercial Service to bring trade delegations to the USA Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
Located in the Opportunity District of Expo 2020 Dubai, the USA Pavilion plans to host additional delegations from Maryland, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, California and Texas.
